Education at Sancta Maria does not happen only in classrooms. It happens in practice rooms and on sports fields, in dormitory conversations and house competitions, in service projects and on stage, in the daily decisions students make about how to treat one another, how to lead, and how to grow.

Student life at Sancta Maria reflects the everyday experiences that shape who our students become. It is found in the friendships they build, the challenges they take on, the responsibilities they carry, and the opportunities they choose to pursue within and beyond the classroom. Participation is encouraged, and every student is supported to find pathways that feel meaningful to them.

The House System

Belonging and Healthy Competition

From their very first day, every student at Sancta Maria belongs to one of four Houses. The House system is one of the most important structures of community life and it creates vertical relationships across year groups, builds loyalty and identity, and provides a framework for healthy competition, celebration, and mutual support.

Taurus

Symbolised by the bull, Taurus represents strength, honesty, perseverance, and teamwork. Members of Taurus approach challenges with determination and resilience, showing tenacity in their efforts and pride in their achievements.

Aquila

Symbolised by the eagle, Aquila reflects courage, ambition, and unity. Aquila students demonstrate a strong winning mindset, striving for excellence with confidence, bravery, and a sense of collective purpose.

Draco

Symbolised by the dragon, Draco stands for courage, wisdom, and leadership. Draco students are known for their determination, resourcefulness, and willingness to take thoughtful risks in pursuit of growth and improvement.

Leo

Symbolised by the lion, Leo embodies confidence, loyalty, and boldness. Bright, energetic, and enthusiastic, Leo students approach challenges with optimism, resilience, and a strong sense of pride in their House and school.

Each student remains in their House throughout their time at Sancta Maria. Through House points, events, and activities, students are recognised for effort, achievement, and positive contribution, creating bonds that often outlast their school years.

Sport and Fitness

Sport and fitness at Sancta Maria are integral to student life, and not an add-on. Our approach is inclusive and progressive, offering opportunities for all students to participate, develop skills, and challenge themselves at an appropriate level, regardless of prior experience or natural aptitude.
From Year 1, students have access to a broad range of sporting experiences, including:

  • Athletics and Swimming
  • Team sports: Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Badminton, Tennis, Cricket, and Handball
  • Mind-body fitness: Yoga, Taekwondo, Gymnastics, and mindfulness-based movement
  • Other sports: Pickleball, Skating, Climbing
  • Indoor sports: Table Tennis, Chess, and Board Games

Sport at Sancta Maria teaches more than physical skill. It teaches students to compete with grace, to support teammates, to handle setbacks, and to understand the relationship between commitment and performance, lessons that transfer directly into academic life and beyond.

Creative Expression

Creativity at Sancta Maria is not confined to art lessons. It runs through the school's culture in the way students are encouraged to approach problems, tell stories, and make meaning from their experiences. The creative programme includes:

  • School Choir and Band: Developing musical community and performance confidence
  • Creative Writing and Poetry Readings: Finding a voice in language
  • Oracy and Public Speaking: Communicating with clarity and conviction
  • Visual and Performing Arts Clubs: Exploring ideas through making
  • Annual Productions and Assemblies: Performing for and with the community
  • Digital Media: Films, Photography, Podcasting, and Vlogging

These opportunities are particularly valuable for students who find their voice most naturally outside the traditional academic curriculum. At Sancta Maria, the student who directs the school film, writes the play, or leads the choir is celebrated with the same genuine pride as the student who tops the class.

Leadership in Action

Leadership at Sancta Maria is understood as a practice, not a title. Students are given real responsibility and genuine opportunities to lead, be it in the classroom, in the boarding house, and in the wider community.

  • Junior Model United Nations (JMUN): Engaging with global issues through diplomacy and debate
  • Marian Cabinet (Student Leadership Body): Student voice in school governance and community life
  • Social Impact Projects: Acting on issues that matter beyond the school campus

These programmes develop the capacity for purposeful, responsible leadership, the kind that is rooted in listening, empathy, and a genuine commitment to making things better.

Intellectual Exploration

Learning at Sancta Maria does not stop at the end of the formal curriculum. Students are encouraged to push further, to explore ideas that fascinate them, to take on intellectual challenges beyond their coursework, and to develop their capacity for original thinking.

  • STEAM and Robotics Challenges, applying creativity and technical skill to real problems
    • AI Literacy and Citizenship, understanding and engaging thoughtfully with artificial intelligence
    • Design Thinking and Innovation, developing the habits of the problem-solver and the entrepreneur

Safeguarding and Wellbeing

Student life at Sancta Maria is built on a foundation of care. Every student, both day student and boarder alike, is known, supported, and genuinely valued. Our safeguarding framework is aligned with international best practices. Our pastoral and counselling provision is designed to be accessible, normalised, and effective.
We believe that students learn best when they feel safe, secure, and known. Building that environment, in and through every interaction, every routine, every policy, is the work that makes everything else possible.

Life at Sancta Maria

For me, Sancta Maria was my second home. I attended 6th through 12th grade there, so it feels like I grew up there. I joined right after moving to India from the US, and everyone welcomed me with open arms.
